NATCHEZ — For the third Friday in a row, inclement weather has wreaked havoc on area high school baseball games. Unfortunately, the third time happened to mess up postseason play.

The Cathedral Green Wave was scheduled to play at Mtount Olive in the first game of an MHSAA Class 1A South State best-of-three series Friday afternoon, but that has been postponed until today at 1 p.m. Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 will now take place next Monday at Chester Willis Field at times to be determined.

The first game of an MPSA Class A South State wild-card, round-robin tournament to decide the two wild-card teams for that tournament got in before the weather turned ugly at Central Hinds Academy in Raymond. University Christian defeated Wayne Academy 8-3.

However, WCCA wasn’t as lucky as both of its games were postponed. The Rams will be the home team in their game against Wayne Academy today at 11 a.m. and the visitors in their game against University Christian at approximately 2 p.m.

Also, the Class AA South State wild-card, round-robin tournament at Huntington School was postponed due to the weather. Copiah Academy will take on Prairie View Academy today at 3 p.m., followed by Oak Forest vs. Copiah Academy at 5:30 p.m. and Prairie View vs. Oak Forest in the finale at 8 p.m. Two of those three teams will get the wild-card berths for South State, with the South Wild Card No. 1 team taking on District 3-AA champion Trinity Episcopal next week.

Also, Vidalia had its game at Franklin Parish postponed from today to next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and the Vikings’ game against Caldwell Parish has been canceled.
