NATCHEZ — Local authorities pulled an unidentified body out of the Mississippi River’s floodwaters Saturday.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., the Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a boater in the Carthage Point Road area who said they saw a body in the river, Adams County Sheriff Ronny Brown said.
Civil Defense Director Stan Owens and the sheriff’s office search and rescue team recovered the body from the river, a male who was in an advanced state of decomposition.
“We can’t tell anything, whether he was black or white,” Brown said. “He had clothes on but no shoes. They could have washed off in the river.”
No one has been reported missing in the last two weeks in Adams County, Brown said.
“He might have floated down from upstream, and he might not,” Brown said. “He was about a mile from the river.”
Coroner James Lee said his office would obtain all of the samples necessary for DNA testing and for dental identification.
“The river is a monster, and people need to be careful out there,” Lee said.
