HOUSTON — The Alcorn State Lady Braves staved off elimination one time in the SWAC softball tournament, but couldn’t win two games in a row on Saturday and saw their season come to an end.

The Lady Braves defeated Alabama A&M 5-1 on Saturday morning thanks to a first inning grand slam by Hanako Kilburn.

All five of Alcorn’s runs came in the top of the first inning.

The Lady Bulldogs could only score one run in the bottom of the sixth.

However, Alcorn couldn’t use the momentum from that victory to defeat the Southern Lady Jaguars Saturday night.

The Jags overcame an early deficit and defeated Alcorn 5-1 to advance to the tournament championship game.

Alcorn scored a run in bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Southern put their first two runs on the board in the top of the second then scored a run in the top of the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead and the victory.

The win puts the Lady Jaguars back in the SWAC softball championship contest for the fourth time in five years. They will seek their first win over the Devilettes as Valley has won all four meetings.
