Ferriday — Funeral services for George Edward “Ed” Robertson, 82, of Ferriday, who died Friday, April 25, 2008, in Ferriday, will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Ferriday, with the Rev. Wayne Gray officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Young’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Robertson was born May 8, 1925, in Memphis, Tenn.

He graduated from Ferriday High School where he was a band member.

He graduated from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches.

Mr. Robertson served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

He was a former employee of R.F.A. as a bookkeeper and later employed at the Concordia Parish School Board.

He retired as a salesman for Young’s Funeral Home and Young American Life Insurance Company.

Then he worked for Colvins Pharmacy and Medical Supply until 2003.

Mr. Robertson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ferriday and a former member of the Ferriday Kiwanis Club and Rifle Point Hunting Club.

Having grown up on Mossgil Plantation outside of Clayton, he developed a love for hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

He was a member of Rife Point Hunting Club for 50 years during this time and he and his family spent many happy hours together.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jane Inez Gordon and George and Glennie Robertson.

Survivors includes his wife of 59 years, Bonnie Robertson; his daughter Cheryl Colvin and her husband Bill, of Ferriday; two sons, Richard Robertson and his wife Carol, and Pat Robertson, all three of Shreveport; his grandchildren, Matt Colvin, Emily Merrill and her husband Dan, all three of Ferriday, Andy Colvin and his wife Jenna of Naples, Fla. and Heather Robertson of Monterey; one great grandchild, Sarah Anne Merrill of Ferriday and several nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be Matt and Andy Colvin, Dan Merrill, Mike Rabb, Bill Beasley, Mark Taunton, Rick Sibley and Paul Riggs.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Herman Gibson, Mike Bowers, Brent Taunton, Sam Endres, Alan Tompkins and Charles Wood.
