NATCHEZ — Later today an attempt will be made to retrieve three barges entangled on the pylons of the Mississippi River Bridge.
At approximately 9 p.m. Monday night a fleet of barges struck the bridge, while most floated downstream, three remained hung-up on the bridge’s pylons.
Vidalia Dock and Storage’s port captain Travis Morace said a tugboat will be used to wrangle and free the tangled barges.
Coast Guard Lt. Teresa Hatfield said of the 24 loose barges on the river all but one has been accounted for.
Its whereabouts are still unknown.
