Alcorn State’s Hughes signs with Cleveland

LORMAN — Senior football and track and field star, Nate Hughes has signed a free-agent deal with NFL team Cleveland Browns.
Hughes, who has recently qualified for the NCAA Regional in the 400 meter hurdles, signed after a weekend rookie mini-camp.
No terms of the free-agent contract were not disclosed.
In 2007, he led Alcorn State in receiving yards with 569 yards, punt returns with 23 returns for 249 yards), kick returns (33 returns for 792 yards), scoring (5 touchdowns) and all-purpose yardage (1606).
Hughes participated in the 2008 American Heritage Bowl and was named to the 2007 SWAC First Team as a Wide Receiver and Return Specialist.
At the 2008 Athletic Award Ceremony, he received the E.E. Simmons Award (athletic’s highest honor) as well as the Jack Spinks Award.
Hughes received his B.S. in nursing in May 2007.
