NATCHEZ – Services for John M. Marchbanks, 82, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, in Natchez, with Dr. Judson W. Hurt officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Marchbanks was born Oct. 26, 1925, in Blytheville, Ark., the son of Paul Hobson and Josie Mae Davis Marchbanks. He was a member of Natchez Lions Club. He served as treasurer for Dixie Youth Baseball League for 45 years. Mr. Marchbanks was a partner with Silas Simmons & Company accounting firm where he began his career in 1950.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bettye Marchbanks; three children, Paul Marchbanks and wife, Sara, both of Natchez, David Marchbanks and wife, Loyce, both of Vidalia, and Lynn Rivers and husband, Jay, both of Monroe, La.; seven grandchildren, Ryan Marchbanks and wife, Amy, Lori Beth Edwards and husband, Stephen, Meghan Marchbanks, Jessica Marchbanks, Matthew Marchbanks, Brett Rivers and Blaine Rivers; three great-grandchildren, Hayes Marchbanks, Crews Marchbanks and Houston Edwards; two brothers, Charles Marchbanks and wife, Dot, both of Greenville, and Rex Marchbanks and wife, Georgia, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Natchez Lions Club, Dixie Youth Baseball, Natchez Children’s Home or a charity of choice.
