NHS wins two state titles in track and field

PEARL — Coach Larry Wesley knew his team would come away from Saturday’s state championship track meet with a few big wins, and Wesley’s gut was right.
Though all of Wesley’s predictions didn’t come true, the Natchez High School track athletes did win two state titles.
Rico Richardson, Wesley Pendleton, Orlando Prater and Jeremy Davis finished first in the 200-meter relay, with a time of 1:29.20.
Richardson also won the triple jump title with a jump of 46 feet 11 inches.
Other top finishers included:
Pendleton, Richardson, Davis and Willie Newman finished third in the 100-meter relay with a time of 42.70.
Pendleton finished fourth in the 200 meters with a 22.10 time.
Ernest Jones finished fifth in high jump with height of 6 feet 2 inches.
Pam Selmon finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.
The Class 5A state meet was in Pearl.
