MARRERO, La. (AP) – A student shot in the parking lot outside a Marrero high school is in stable condition.

A spokesman for the Jefferson Parish sheriff’s department said investigators are trying to determine how 17-year-old Quang Tran Nguyen ended up with two or three gunshot wounds in his abdomen.

Colonel John Fortunato said Nguyen has changed his story several times since the shooting outside John Ehret High School was reported early Monday afternoon.

Fortunato said the shooting occurred in or near Nguyen’s car while it was parked in front of the school. A relative of Nguyen’s drove him to a nearby hospital. His wounds weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
