Nearly every school is out, graduations are over and summer is here.

It’s muggy outside, so even though the calendar doesn’t say it’s officially summer, it might as well be in this part of the world.

But before we head full steam ahead into the summer months, let’s remember a few good headlines from the second to last week of May.

Four Special Olympics athletes from Natchez competed in the regional swim meet last week, and they brought home the gold. And silver.

4Rosekita Johnson, Chandler Warren, Jordan Couche and Haley Freeman won medals at the event in Ocean Springs. We are proud of these athletes and happy they have such an event of which to be part.

4The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce recently presented tourism awards to a number of area residents. Those who have donated time, money and energy to tourism in the area were honored for their work. These people have kept our tourism alive over the years and we all owe them a big thank you.

4As May winds down, so does the Natchez Festival of Music. A few great shows remain, but soon our friends from the big city will pack their bags until next year. The festival has been a success so far, and we are lucky to have so many wonderful performers in our midst.

June will be here soon, and we know the month will bring many good headlines of its own.
