Weekend fatality-free on Miss-Lou highways

NATCHEZ — As of Monday afternoon, Mississippi Highway Patrol and Louisiana State Police officials reported no fatal accidents in Natchez and Concordia Parish during the 78-hour Memorial Day weekend.
Memorial Day weekend officially began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday.
Soaring gas prices may have led some people to cancel their travel plans this year. A gallon of regular unleaded fuel in Natchez can cost as much as $3.89. According to AAA estimates, 37.9 million Americans traveled 50 miles or more this Memorial Day, a decrease from 38.2 million travelers last year.
