NATCHEZ — In an effort to keep the area litter-free, the Keep Natchez Adams County Beautiful committee will don orange vests and gloves to pick up trash at Broadmoor Park today.

From 8 a.m. until noon today, volunteers will be out at the park in Broadmoor Subdivision cleaning up, committee member Stephanie Hutchins said.

The beautification effort falls under the umbrella of the national Keep America Beautiful program.

“That’s an intense effort in local communities to support a national beautification program,” Hutchins said.

The first clean-up was two weeks ago when the Keep Natchez Adams County Beautiful committee partnered with Natchez Downtown Development Authority to clean up downtown.

“Our downtown effort was the best ever,” Hutchins said. “We probably had 40 people which was wonderful.”

Janet Sullivan, chair of the committee, said the committee encourages volunteers to join them.

“We feel everyone has a vested interest in keeping our community clean and safe,” she said. “A clean area is a safe area and we would love to have as many people as possible come out to volunteer to help us.”

Broadmoor Park was chosen because the group wanted to include a location in the county.

“We just decided that it would be an appropriate area to clean, it hasn’t been cleaned in quite some time,” she said.

All cleaning materials will be provided, including vests, litter grabbers and a limited amount of gloves, Sullivan said.

Both Sullivan and Hutchins hope for a good turnout.

“Four hours a year is not too much to ask we don’t think,” Sullivan said.
