TEN YEARS AGO — LSU senior first baseman Eddy Furniss, who has a .413 batting average with 27 home runs and 75 RBIs, is named the winner of the Dick Howser Award for college baseball’s most outstanding player.
FIVE YEARS AGO — Nine college baseball players from Mississippi are taken in the MLB Draft, including Mississippi State pitcher Paul Maholm, who is taken by the Pittsburg Pirates with the eighth pick in the first round.
