CHEVY CHASE, Md. – Memorial services for Mary Frances “Fran” M. Schorr, 73, of Chevy Chase, Md., formerly of Franklin County, who died of a heart attack Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Suburban Hospital, in Bethesda, Md., will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at The Chevy Chase Village Hall in Chevy Chase, Md.
Fran was born Nov. 5, 1934, in Franklin County, the daughter of Dewey and Annis McGehee. She was raised on the McGehee family farm, on Highway 98, in Smithdale, and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Little Springs. She was an honor graduate of Meadville High School and received a degree in English literature from Belhaven College in Jackson. Following college, Fran went on to teach junior high school English in Houston. It is there that she met her husband, Burton Schorr, a New York City native who was working as a reporter for The Houston Chronicle. The two were married at Mount Zion in 1958.
Fran also was a dedicated community volunteer. She served as president of the Chevy Chase Historical Society and also was a member of the Garden Club of Chevy Chase.
Fran was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of almost 50 years; one son, Daniel William Schorr, 45, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one daughter, Serena Darsey Schorr, 41, of Arlington, Va.; three grandchildren, Daniel’s daughter, Hannah Louise Schorr, 7, and Serena’s children, Cole Daniel Trudo, 9, and Darsey Elizabeth Trudo, 6; Fran’s brother and sister-in-law, William D. and Dorothy McGehee, both of Natchez; two cousins, Mayes and Dorothy McGehee, both of Meadville; and uncle and aunt, Harold “Sut” and Jane Mosher, both of Baton Rouge.
