Natchez — Adah Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star will honor their heroines and heroes from each of their subordinate chapters this weekend. There are nine subordinate chapters. Each chapter choose two people, a man or woman who they felt had served their chapters well. All nominees have shown years of dedication and performance and all are still active in their chapters. A program for the honorees will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, located at 349 Lower Woodville Road. The heroes and heroines are:

W. Elizabeth Latham, P.G.M is a native of Adams County. She is the second of 12 children born to Emerson Latham and Tennessee Johnson Butler.

Latham is the proud mother of seven boys and four girls. She is the grandmother of 17, great-grandmother of 26, and the great-great-grandmother of one.

She was educated at the Milford School in Adams County.

Latham is a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church, a member of the senior choir and serves as chaplain.

M.W. Bettie Littles Minor, S.G.M., is a native of Copiah County, Hazlehurst. She is a retired teacher from the Natchez-Adams School District, where she taught social studies for 38 years. She is married to the Rev. Robert L. Minor and the mother of Vermelle and Marco

Bettie is a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church and also attends Windy Hill No. 1 where her husband is pastor.

She is very active in the Order of Eastern Star and its affiliates. She is a member of the Emma Morris Chapter No. 12 and Pinkie Jackson Amaranth Court No. 1.

M. W. Robert L. Minor, P.G.P., is a native of Natchez. He is married to Bettie Littles Minor and the father of six. He is a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church and Pastor of Windy Hill No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church.

He is an active member of M.W.W.T.M. Grant Jr. Grand Lodge A.F.& A.M. for over 50 years. He is a past worshipful master and a Noble of Alkoran Court No. 35.

Sister Luella Geter Dunbar is the daughter of Dave Geter and Susie Duffie. She is third child of five siblings. She was educated at the Kingston school. She is a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church No. 2 located in Kingston, where she serves faithfully on the mother board. She was married to the late Bro. L.J. Dunbar Sr., and they have six children.

She is a member of the Lucinda Robinson Chapter No. 6 Order of the Eastern Star where she served as past matron. She is a member of the White Star Lodge No. 5 and Home Mission Benevolent Society.

W. Curlee Carradine was born and raised in a small community in Franklin County called Bunkley. She is the daughter of Ada Garrett and Ned Weathersby. She is the second oldest of 11 children. She attended school in Bunkley. She married the late Wardell Carradine and raised seven children. She is a retired homemaker and a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Kirby. Carradine is a faithful and dedicated member of Mount Olive Chapter No. 9 Order of the Eastern Star, where is has been a member since 1944. She has served as past matron.

M.W. J.L Miller, P.S.G.P., was born in Franklin County to the late Johnnie and Leslie Miller. He is the second oldest of 11 children. He attended Rosewald School in Franklin County. And later attended Jackson State University, during that time he married Christine Booth in 1948. They had one child. Miller has been a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Kirby since 1941, where he serves as deacon. He has been a member of Mount Olive Lodge No. 14 since 1943, where he has served as past worshipful master. He is also a member of M.W.W.T.M Grant Jr. Grand Lodge where served as past grand master.

M.W. John Bacon, P.P.G., is a native of Adams County. He is the oldest child of the late Jim and Alice Bacon. He attended school in Kingston.

Bacon was married to the late Sadie Bacon. He retired from Armstrong Tires. He has been a dedicated member of King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. He serves on the deacon board. He has also been a dedicated, faithful member to Lucinda Robinson Chapter No. 6 Order of Eastern Star and Enoch Lodge No. 18 for over 50 years.

PGM Ornsby L.H. Young is a native of Adams County. She is daughter of the late Bro. Eugene A. Haney Sr. and Sister Beatrice Washington. She graduated from Brumfield High School. After graduation she moved to New Orleans where she later graduated from Labelle’s Beauty School of Cosmetology. She also attended Delgado Community College and Union Theological Seminary studying religious education. She retired from Deansgate manufacturing company after 25 years of service. She was married to the late Bro. James H. Young Sr. of Natchez. She is a member of Zion Hill No. 1 Baptist Church where she serves in the deaconess, Sunday school and missionary ministries.

W. Dorothy Mae Henry Foster, P.G.M., was born in the Milford Community, the daughter of Clarence and Evelyn Henry. She was educated at the Milford School and later at Brumfield High School. She later married Floyd B. Foster and had four children, Lula, Floyd, Roxie and Edgar. Believing that children were a gift from God, and that they needed to cared for in the best manner possible, Foster was a stay-at-home-mom.

She has been a dedicated member of Edna Anderson Chapter No. 11 Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She has served in various positions including Worthy Matron. She was Worthy Matron when the chapter constructed its present building located on Artman Road.

Bro. Nelson Dyson has been a member of Clover Hill Lodge No. 13 and Edna Anderson Chapter No. 11 in excess of 50 years. He has been a faithful and working member of each. He is a member of the Daughters of Zion Baptist Church, where he serves on the deacon board. He has been a faithful worker in the community and his church.

Sis. Estelle Mayberry Fleming is a native of Franklin County. She is the daughter of the late Alex and Barbara Calcote Mayberry. She is a graduate of Brumfield High School. She received a Bachelor of Science and master’s degree in education from Alcorn State University. She is a retired school teacher from the Natchez public schools after 39 years of service. She is currently a foster mom to needy children. She was married to the late Willie Lee Fleming. She is a member of the New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church where she serves on the Deaconess board. She is a member of Victory Chapter No. 4, Adah Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star of the Adoptive rite, L.E. Spencer Past Matrons Council, Pinky Jackson Amaranth Court No. 1.

W. Clara Louise Franklin, P.G.M., is the daughter of the late Ed Ware Sr. and Lillie Pearl Cotton Ware. She was born, raised and educated in Adams County. She is the wife of the late James Franklin and mother of six children, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grand children, and one great-great grandchild.

Franklin has been a member of Will Foster Chapter No. 10 Order of the Eastern Star for 29 years where she served as treasurer for several years. Franklin is a Past Grand Matron of Adah Grand Chapter and a Past Royal Matron Evelyn Lillie K. Amaranth Court No. 3. She is also a member of L.E. Spencer Administrative Council and the AL-KORAN Court No. 1.

M. W. Ed. Ware Jr., is the son of the late Ed Ware Sr. and Lillie Pearl Cotton Ware, was born, raised and educated in Adams County. He is the husband of Daisy Jackson Ware and the father of six children. He is also the proud grandfather of 10 and the great-grandfather of two.

Ware has been a member of Mount Bethel Lodge No. 16 for 33 years, where he served as the worshipful master for eight years and the secretary for several years. He has been a member of Will Foster Chapter No. 10 Order of the Eastern Star for 31 years.

W. Nancy Curtis White is the wife of the late Robert L. White Sr., and the daughter of the late Levi Curtis and Francis Scott Curtis. She is the proud mother of 10 children, two sons-in-law, four daughters-in-law, 29 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She has one sibling. She is a member of Queen Ester Chapter No. 11 Order of the Eastern Star, and Pinkey Jackson Amaranth Court No. 1.

W. Aldenia Walker, P.M., was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Will Birdie and Mary McCoy Birdie. She is the mother of six children. She has 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Walker joined the Jerusalem Baptist church in Kingston at an early age and has remained a faithful member and a mother of the church. She has been a member of Deborah Chapter No. 5, Order of the Eastern Star for over 30 years, Pinkie Jackson Amaranth court No. 1, and the NAACP.

W. Joyce Marie Brown, P.G.M. is a native of Natchez, the daughter of Albert Smith and Harriet Smith. She is the oldest of three daughters and the widow of John Wesley Brown. She attended Sadie V. Thompson School. Brown is a member of Grove African Methodist Episcopal. Church, where she serves as church clerk, past director of the youth department and a member of the missionary society.

Bettie Sago is the daughter of the late Joseph and Mattie Noble-Conrad of Woodville. She is the younger of two children. Sago was married to the late Joseph Sago. She is the mother of nine children. She is a member of Adah Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Queen Ester No. 1 Order of the Eastern Star and L.E. Spencer Administrative Council.

W. Mary Wilson P.M., has been with Adah Grand Chapter for nearly 30 years as a member of Deborah Chapter No. 5. She is a native of Natchez and is the mother of one daughter and the grand-mother of one.

She comes from a large family, with nine siblings. She is also a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church where she is the President of the Usher Board. During her time in Deborah Chapter, she worked faithfully and has served in many capacities.
