NATCHEZ — Around lunchtime on Tuesday employees at the Natchez Chamber of Commerce were given some surprising news — their sign had been stolen.

Chamber President Debbie Hudson said she thinks the sign was stolen from the Main Street office over the weekend but was not made aware of it until Tuesday.

“I just can’t believe we didn’t notice it, but we’ve been so busy,” she said.

Hudson estimated the cost to be between $300 and $500, but said the annoyance is just as important as the money.

“We’re attempting to get it back as soon as possible because we’ve already had several people ask if we have moved,” she said.

Hudson said she thinks the sign was stolen by children pulling a prank.

“The policemen have been having a good many problems from Bowie’s to pretty much anywhere on Main Street,” she said.

According to the police report, the theft is a grand larceny.
