Baton Rouge — Marqueeta Arshae Lollis of Wilkinson County High School was honored at a reception on May 10 at the Lod Cook Alumni Center at LSU.

Beginning the last week of May, WAFB Channel 9 and Campus Federal Credit Union honored 85 of the highest academic achievers from ten public and private schools in the WAFB Channel 9 viewing area. This area includes 11 parishes and two Mississippi counties. The 20th annual Best of the Class project will be broadcast through mid-June on WAFB as a series of 60-second announcements appearing throughout the day and in primetime. The “stars” of the annoucements will be outstanding students themselves.

“The Best of the Class” was videotaped on location at the Lod Cook Alumni Center at LSU. Executives from the Campus Federal Credit Union and WAFB anchors were on hand to greet and congratulate the students and their parents.

WAFB began the Best of the Class program in the Channel 9 service area in 1989. Since then WAFB has featured over 1,000 scholars. This year 85 more will be added to the honor roll.

According to WAFB General Sales Manager Vicki Kellum, “Exceptional students deserve recognition in the community as role models of excellence. There are outstanding young men and women, while particpants in athletic evens and beauty pageants receive an abundance of media attention, the best of the Class 2008 focuses the spotlight on these academic achievers.”
