JACKSON (AP) — Mississippi’s state-licensed casinos, boosted by a month that touched five weekends and included Memorial Day, saw their revenue from gambling jump 13.4 percent from April to May.
The Mississippi State Tax Commission says the casinos pulled in $236.8 million last month, compared with $208.9 million in April, which has four weekends.
The May figure was down 1.3 percent from the $239.8 million the casinos won in May 2007.
Analysts have said that casinos in Mississippi have been hit by high gasoline prices, reduced travel and competition from new Indian casinos in Florida.
