A “How to Have a Firewise Home” program will be hosted by the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District and presented by Mississippi Forestry Commission. The event will be on July 15, at the Meadville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. This program is part of a new initiative led by the Mississippi Forestry Commission to achieve fire safe planning and development for homeowners in Franklin, Adams, and Jefferson counties. Participants will learn about why homes burn, various fuel reduction techniques and how to assess the fire danger of their own home.

We believe this program may have a significant impact on wildfire protection in the area. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at approximately 1 p.m. There is no charge for participation and lunch will be provided. Pre-registration is required for the noon meal head count. Anyone planning to attend should call the Franklin County SWCD office at 601-384-2310 by July 3.

Registered Foresters attending the event will be eligible for 3.0 CFE Hours Category 1.
