NATCHEZ — The Natchez Moose Lodge in partnership with United Blood Services will have a critical appeal blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge on John R. Junkin Drive.
“The blood supply is always its lowest during the summer months, however, this summer it is at a critical point. Blood usage is at an all-time high and blood donations are at an all time low, throughout the nation and especially here in Mississippi,” said Katie Swinney, donor recruitment representative for United Blood Services. “We simply do not have enough people donating to supply the needs of patients and have been calling on our network of blood banks to help us provide the blood that is needed.”
It takes 300 blood donations every day to meet the needs of patients and to be ready for emergencies.
“We all expect blood to be there for us if we ever need it,” Swinney said. “But only about 5 percent of area residents donate blood. If you have a friend or family member that has used blood or blood components, you understand this need.”
United Blood Services/ Natchez Trace Region, is the sole provider of blood for Natchez Regional Medical Center.
All donors will be entered into the monthly drawing for a Garmin E Trex GPS Navigation System and the grand prize drawing, on Sept. 6, for a fully loaded Pond Prowler Bass Boat courtesy of Bass Pro Shops. Donors will receive a “Fishing for Donors” T-shirt and cholesterol testing.
