June ends with a great week

Did you find out that the green elephant figurine that was passed down from your great-great-grandmother is really worth $20,000 this weekend?

Maybe not, but at least a few locals got some good news at the appraisal portion of the Natchez Antiques Show. But the unexpected fortunes weren’t the only good stories in the Miss-Lou this weekend.

Let’s review some other good news from the week.

4Catholic Charities has agreed to take over responsibility for the Natchez Food Pantry. The non-profit was in danger of closing until the agency stepped up to take it on. We are grateful for their commitment and we hope the community will help the agency keep the pantry running.

4 Another great local agency — the Red Cross — shared a report from their year’s work. The agency has made a valuable impact on our area in the last 12 months, and we are lucky to have them around.

4 Trinity graduate Parker Brumfield was one of four local students to be named STAR student in 2008. Brumfield earned the honor based on his ACT score and grades. We are proud of him and the other STARS in our community.

As July comes, we know good news will come with it, green elephants or not.
