New officials to take office

NATCHEZ — The elections are over, counted and certified, and today local transitional governments become the permanent municipal administrations with the swearing-in of new officials.

In Natchez, Mayor-elect Jake Middleton and aldermen-elect Dan Dillard, Tony Fields and Mark Fortenberry will be sworn into office at 10 a.m. at the Natchez City Council Chambers.

Incumbent aldermen Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis, James “Ricky” Gray and Bob Pollard will also renew their oaths of office.

The mayor and all of the aldermen except Dillard will have their oath administered by Judge Jim Blough. Judge Al Johnson will administer Dillard’s oath.

In Vidalia, Police Chief-elect Ronnie G. “Tapper” Hendricks was so eager to start his job he was at the police station at 12:01 a.m., but he will officially take his oath of office at the Vidalia Conference and Convention Center at 2 p.m.

Incumbent Mayor Hyram Copeland and aldermen Jon Betts, Ricky Knapp, Triand “Tron” McCoy, Maureen “Mo” Saunders and Vernon Stevens will also take a new oath of office at that time.

Judge George Murray will administer the oaths.

In Ferriday, Mayor-elect Glen McGlothin and aldermen-elect Elijah “Steppers” Banks and Somer Lance will take their oath of office at 8:30 a.m. at the Ferriday Town Hall.

Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber will administer the oaths of office.

In Clayton, Judge Kathy Johnson will administer the oath of office for Mayor-elect Rydell Turner and incumbent Police Chief Clarence Skipper.

Aldermen Floyd L. Barber, Cary Ray Thompson, Irene Jefferson, Willie Evans and Sandy Clayton will also take their oath of office at the same time — 10 a.m. — at Clayton Village Hall.
