FERRIDAY – Services for Effie Shiel Bell, 95, of Lake St. John, who died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Rapides General Medical Center, in Alexandria, will be at 11 a.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Wilson officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mrs. Bell was born March 1, 1913, in Wesson, the daughter of George Shiel and Callie Hicks Shiel. She was a Natchez seamstress, owner and operator of Lake St. John Grocery and a member of the Lake St. John Community Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Earl Chambers and Thomas Bell Jr.; four brothers, George Shiel, Carroll Shiel, Fred Shiel and Burk Shiel; three sisters, Ella Shiel, Betty King and Sylvia Edwards; and one granddaughter, Jora Burrows.
Survivors include one stepson, Tom Bell and wife, Charlotte, both of Lake St. John; two stepdaughters, Bonnie Hagen and husband, Ted, both of DeVine, Texas and Tinker Rogers and husband, John, both of ElDorado, Ark.; three granddaughters, Stephanie Bell, Tina Mott and husband, John, and Chrisanna Rogers; one grandson, John Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Hailey Mott; two nieces, Betty Walker and Mary Horne; and one nephew, Gaylon Shiel.
Pallbearers will be William Coleman, John Mott, Bobby Marks, Tommy Faulkner, Leo Ivy, Carl Wilson and Gaylon Shiel.
