NATCHEZ — With the first day of school only two weeks away, registration has begun for the Natchez-Adams School District.

Natchez High freshmen and sophomores will register today with juniors and seniors registered Wednesday.

“It’s going a lot smoother than it has in past,” School Employee Sonja Ford said.

The school did a much better job advertising for registration and was more organized than last year, Ford said.

They had fliers and handouts that helped to answer many of the most commonly asked question about registration, which helped things go much more quickly.

“It’s simple and streamlined,” she said. “The most they have to deal with us is 10 minutes.”

Students have to pay the activities fee, fill out the packet, get their test scores, verify residency and get a schedule.

This process was easy with juniors and seniors because the parents and students knew what to expect, Ford said.

Today’s registration for freshman and sophomores may be more time consuming, but Ford still expects it to go well.

“Even though the process may be a little more tedious (today) it should still be a smooth transition,” she said.

Delphine Evans, whose children registered for classes Wednesday, also thought the process went well.

“It went pretty smooth and it went really fast,” she said. “They do a real good job. They are very helpful.”

Evans was also happy to be getting registration over with.

“I’m glad school’s about to start, but they’re not,” she said, referring to her daughters, Ophelia and Olivia.

Ophelia, a 10th grader, who was able to register early with her 11th grade sister, said that registration just made school seem that much closer

And although she doesn’t want to start school again, there are parts she is looking forward to.

“I’ll be happy to see my friends and have something to do,” she said. “It’s time to learn new things.”

Wednesday’s registration had a good turn out and Friday’s make up registration will give students who missed a chance to make it up.

There will also be a chance to register at the beginning of school.

All other schools in the district have registration going on from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. until July 31. School begins Aug. 7.
