Enjoy the final days of summer

Registration is ongoing at all local schools, but summer isn’t quite over yet.
Summer events are still occurring around us. Let’s review a few of the good headlines from last week.
4 The residents of Minor Street and beyond gathered Saturday for the annual Minorville Jubilee. The street party began 16 years ago in order to get neighbors acquainted. Now, it continues to be a great get-together that promotes community unity.
4 Billy Ray Farmer of Farmer Electrical Service, Jeff McBride of J&M Digital Corporation and Ricky Edgin of Edgin Construction put their services to work for the City of Natchez this week. Farmer and McBride are working to install a video surveillance system at historic Arlington. Edgin provided the equipment and time to cut long-overgrown grass at the Arlington lot.
These men deserve a big thank you from local residents, and their example should serve as a model to the person responsible for maintaining the property.
4 A new face will join students at the Vidalia schools when school starts in a few weeks. The Vidalia Police Department has assigned Officer Beverly Metcalfe to serve as a school resource officer. Metcalfe will take time to get to know the students and be a calming presence on campus.
But Metcalfe and others have a few more weeks before school begins. Enjoy the final days. We know the 2008-2009 school year will be full of good news.
