VIDALIA — The man allegedly implicated in a late May vehicular fatality will appear in court today.

Dusty G. Foster, 26, of 17 Front St., Natchez, is scheduled for arraignment on charges of DWI (first offense), hit-and-run and vehicular homicide in Seventh Judicial District Court this morning.

The charges against Foster are in relation to the May 31 death of 26-year-old Kevin Mitchell.

Arraignment is the legal procedure in which the defendant enters a plea of “guilty” or “not guilty” before the court.

According to Louisiana State Police reports at the time of the accident, Mitchell was laying in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 84 when the 2006 Ford Taurus Foster was allegedly driving struck him.

Mitchell was reportedly lying in the road because the Kawasaki motorcycle he was riding had just been involved in a different accident.

The accident occurred at approximately midnight at milepost 178.5 on U.S. 84, near Airport Road.

After allegedly fleeing the scene, Foster was later arrested by the Louisiana State Police. Along with the passenger in the vehicle with him, Foster was uninjured, reports said.

Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Concordia Parish Coroner’s Office. Mitchell’s death was the 21st traffic fatality Louisiana State Police Troop “E” investigated in 2008, and was the second one involving a motorcycle.
