VIDALIA — Louisiana shoppers will get a break from some taxes today and Saturday.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. today, the first $2,500 of all “tangible item” purchases will be exempt from the 4 percent state sales tax.

Automobiles and meals are exempt from the tax holiday.

The tax holiday will end at midnight Saturday.
