GLOSTER – Services for Avanell E. Brown, 87, of Gloster, who died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital, in Meadville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Royal Chapel Church with the Rev. Mark Lambert, the Rev. Jerry Meggs and the Rev. Max Foreman officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Brown was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Amite County, the daughter of Sy Garret Etheridge and Ella Hutchinson Etheridge. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Royal Chapel Church and was a loving mother, grandmother and a friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson “Jack” Brown; her parents; one sister, Willie Huff; and five brothers, Russell, Albert, Howard, Woodrow and Dub Etheridge.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Brown and wife, Mary Rose, both of Gloster, and Lugie Brown of wife, Helen, both of New Albany; five grandchildren, Todd Brown and wife, Marilynn, both of Mathiston, Jerry Brown Jr. and wife, Tori, both of Forest, Shawna Langford and husband, Vince, both of Saltillo, Matthew Brown and Andrew Brown and wife, Ashley, all of Gloster; four stepgrandchildren, Ellis Hymel Jr. and wife, Bonnie, both of Gonzales, La., Tony Hymel and wife, Gail, both of Gramercy, La., Chad Hymel of Los Angles, and Gina Faludi and husband, Jeff, both of Houston; five great-great-grandchildren, Pressly, Mari-Todd, Jack Brown, Carson and Emilia Langford; five step-great-grandchildren, Chase and Ross Hymel, Sean, Trey and Alexis Hymel; one brother, Lester Etheridge and wife, Hulene, both of McComb; two sisters-in-law, Vergie Etheridge, of Gloster, and Ada Lee Huff of Brookhaven; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Chapel Church Building Fund.
