Young boy enjoys helping out team

Ferriday — Monday’s rain put a damper on many things — having to stand at the bus stop and carriage rides around Natchez, the practice schedule for many area high school football teams.
But it didn’t keep Ferriday High’s football team from hitting their rain-soaked practice field.
And, of course, the water boy had to put up with the witness, too.
But this was no problem for Trojan water boy Chance Johnson, 8. He arrived ready to work, in a pair of galoshes.
When asked where he was going in the get-up he answered without hesitation, “It’s wet out here, and I gotta work!”
A part of the team since 2006, Johnson is the son of Walter Johnson, one of the team’s assistant coaches.
Johnson says he enjoys his job mostly because he gets to help out the players.
“And I get to go out of town with them,” he quickly added.
