NATCHEZ – Elcie Boyte Smith, 85, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, in Ferriday, will be at noon today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Brother Gary Howington and Charles Ray Blount officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith was born June 6, 1923, in Lincoln County, the daughter of Martin Wilson and Susann Elizabeth Williamson Boyte. She was a member of First Baptist Church, of Vidalia, as well as Vidalia Eastern Star.
Mrs. Smith was a well known, talented seamstress for many years, having worked for Bluebell Garment Factory and H.F. Byrne Drapery. She created many projects for designers Buzz Harper and H. Hal Garner. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, L.W. Smith; one sister, Ruby Dale Dunaway; and five brothers, Don Boyte, Ruie Boyte, Elzy Boyte, Dee Boyte and Purvis Boyte.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Cain and husband, Ricky, both of Lake St. John; one granddaughter, Hope Smith Baker and husband, Bill, both of Vidalia; one grandson, Ty Cain; two great-grandsons, Colton Egloff and Evan Sanford; one sister Bertie Cleveland of Hammond, La.; one brother, Bill Boyte of Brookhaven; and a number of nieces and nephews.
