VIDALIA — A Monterey man was arrested Thursday on charges that he started an August 2007 fire that destroyed a home.
Jared C. Mount, 20, 107 Dr. Gibson Road, was arrested on charges of aggravated arson, flight from an officer, no driver’s license, no turn signal and no seat belt.
Mount is accused of starting the fire that destroyed the mobile home at 129 Dr. Gibson Road on the same night he allegedly committed a spate of vandalisms to mailboxes and roadside emergency service communications boxes.
During the vandalism incidents, Mount allegedly committed damage to the local fire stations that was so great that it reportedly kept fire trucks from responding to the fire.
Mount was arrested in August 2007 on charges of aggravated criminal damage to property in connection with the vandalisms, and he reportedly fled when Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigator David Hedrick attempted to arrest him on the new charges.
“Just because an arrest was not made for the arson right away, that does not mean that the case was closed,” Sheriff Randy Maxwell said in a statement. “Hedrick and others have continued to work on this case ever since that night.”
Mount has not yet been tried on the criminal damage to property charges, and officials at the CPSO said he is also awaiting trial on a number of other charges, including possession of marijuana, resisting an officer and traffic violations.
