NATCHEZ — Behind a 14-run third inning, the Cathedral Lady Green Wave routed the visiting Vicksburg High Lady Gators 28-3 in only their third game of the season.

Cathedral (2-1) started off with a six-run first inning to immediately put the Lady Gators in a hole.

Vicksburg couldn’t muster up any offense and sat back as the Lady Green Wave continued to pound out run after run.

Cathedral then scored 14 runs on eight hits in the third inning and led 24-0 after the inning was over.

“We hit the ball real well tonight,” Cathedral head coach Gary Blackwell said. “I was pleased with the effort.”

The Lady Green Wave collected 24 hits in the game, but were also given some help with six errors committed by the Lady Gators.

Vicksburg would come back to score three runs in the fourth inning only to have the game called due to bad weather in the bottom of that inning.

“We’ve been rained out for the past two weeks,” Blackwell said.

“I’m glad we finally got a game in. The girls played a good game.”

Rachel Smilo earned the win for Cathedral while Faith Thomas was handed the loss for Vicksburg.

Ginny Daggett batted 4-for-4 with a home run, two singles, a double, and seven RBI for Cathedral.

Elizabeth Blackwell, Zoie Arnold, Anna Huffines, Betsy Daggett, Beth Fortenberry, Rachel Smilo, and Melissa Cavin also had two or more hits each for the Lady Green Wave.

Cathedral faces Warren Central Thursday at home.
