Vidalia — A suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of Calvary Baptist Church led to the arrest of a Vidalia man early Sunday morning.
Police Chief Tapper Hendricks said when patrolling officers Lt. Terence Williams and Delayne Bush spotted two juvenile males in a vehicle in the church lot they knew something wasn’t right.
During questioning the officers learned the two young men dropped off an older male passenger to visit a female friend on Eleanor Street.
Tapper said the female was a minor.
Between the time the officers left the two males and arrived at the house on Eleanor Street, to which they were directed, the vehicle’s occupants called to warn Eric W. Heilig, 19, of the officers pending arrival.
As the officers arrived Heilig was making his escape.
“He went out the window,” he said.
Hendricks said Heilig left the residence and was found hiding in a ditch behind Vidalia High School.
Hendricks said Heilig had gone to the house to visit a 15-year-old girl.
While Hendricks said he is not sure what the duo was up to before police arrived, he said Heilig did not have permission to be at the residence.
Heilig was booked on charges of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
The minor’s mother filed the charges.
Heilig is being held without bond.
