McMillian hired as lead conservationist at NRCS

NATCHEZ — Edward Earl McMillian Jr. is the new lead district conservationist for the Adams County and Jefferson County Natural Resources Conservation Service Work Units.

McMillian will be working with landowners and the local government representatives in both counties.

He started his career with NRCS in 2001 as a soil conservationist working in the Greenwood Field Office in Greenwood. His duties were assisting the district conservationist and staff with the Wetlands Reserve Program and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, while managing the Conservation Reserve Program and serving as Toolkit/GIS liaison for NRCS Area 4.

He was promoted to district conservationist at the Port Gibson Field Office in Claiborne County in July 2004. He worked with crop, livestock and timber producers. He also worked hand in hand with the City of Port Gibson and Claiborne County representatives on Emergency Watershed Protection/Earmark Projects.

McMillian has a bachelor’s of science in agricultural economics and a master’s of science in agriculture from Alcorn State University. He is married to Angel, and they have two children, Tre’, who is 7, and Kaitlyn, who is 6.
