Huntington shut out by Franklin Academy

FERRIDAY — Franklin Academy shut out Huntington in five innings of softball Tuesday, 9-0, in front of the Lady Hounds’ home crowd.

Franklin Academy scored the run son 12 hits, leaving six on base.

Franklin started early with a run in the first inning, scored two in the second and one in the fourth. They added five in the fifth for the run-rule.

Lauren Ray was 1-for-1 with a double, and Savannah Sikes hit 2-for-4.

Casey Guillettit and Mallory Walch both hit 2-for-2.

Huntington’s Julie Corbett was 2-for-3 at the plate, the only hits of the game for the Lady Hounds, who left six on base.

Neither team made an error.

West Lincoln 5, Cathedral 4

BROOKHAVEN — Cathedral’s slow-pitch softball team fell to West Lincoln High, 5-4, on Tuesday, despite out-hitting the Lady Bears, 16-7.

Cathedral scored the first run of the game in the first inning but soon fell behind 3-1. They chipped away at West Lincoln’s lead with a run in the third frame and pulled ahead with two runs in the fifth.

But West Lincoln came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game in front of its home crowd.

Cathedral’s Mae Durkin recorded the only extra-base hit of the game, a double.

Green Wave players Zoie Arnold and Betsy Daggett were 3-for-4 each, Elizabeth Blackwell hit 2-for-4, and pitcher Rachel Smilo, who recorded the loss, hit 2-for-3.

Ashley McCaffery was West Lincoln’s only player to garner multiple hits, going 2-for-3.

Jessica Franklin recorded the win for the Lady Bears, who had two errors in the game.
