PELAHATCHIE — It took an off-kilter pass by Pelahatchie’s Lance Davis to seal another victory for the Green Wave Friday.

Cathedral’s Zac Arnold intercepted Davis’ pass and returned it 40-yards for the final touchdown of the Green Wave’s 35-26 win over the chiefs.

However, it was the running game that kept Cathedral in position for the win, with three of their four offensive touchdowns coming on the ground, as well as 173 of their 240 total yards.

“We got a good group of kids and they like to run the ball and it gives them a boost to run the ball on someone,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said.

The first of those touchdowns came on a 1-yard run from Jeb White with 5:15 left in the first quarter. White also scored on a 3-yard run with 1:21 left in the first.

The Chiefs nearly match Cathedral in the first, scoring on a 64-yard pass from Lance Davis and 3-yard run from Dan Harvey, with a missed extra point.

In the second quarter, Pelahatchie’s Davis put six more points on the board with a 4-yard run with 9:46 left, but once again, the Chief’s Taylor Deese failed to convert the extra point.

Cathedral out scored the Chiefs by one again with a 10-yard pass from Dylan White to Kole Junkin and a successful extra point by Harrison Burns with 3:25 left in the half.

The third time was not the charm for Pelahatchie in the second half, as they missed their third extra point of the game.

Cathedral controlled the fourth quarter with a 9-yard touchdown run by Daniel Jenkins and capped off the game with Zac Arnold’s interception return.

The big win really got the team pumped up, Beesley said.

“I saw a lot of life and enthusiasm from kids on sidelines,” he said. “We’ve been missing it for a while, so hopefully it’ll carry over for the next couple of weeks.”
