VIDALIA — At halftime, it looked as though Vidalia and Ouachita Christian School would battle until the final second ticked off the clock, but that wasn’t the case as OCS went on a 21-0 run in the second half to beat the Vikings 40-14 in Vidalia.

“It was weak coaching on my part,” Vidalia head coach Dee Faircloth said. “We made mistakes and didn’t execute.”

Vidalia (0-1,0-0) played in it’s first game of the season after having it’s season opener last week against Block cancelled due to Hurricane Gustav.

OCS (2-0, 0-0) scored first on a three-yard touchdown run by Matt Kennedy.

The Vikings then responded with a touchdown of their own with a 31-yard pass from Caleb Vines to Tri McCoy.

OCS and Vidalia traded touchdowns once more with Vidalia leading 14-12 after a 24-yard touchdown pass from Vines to Dee Fleming with 1:15 left in the second quarter.

The Eagles surprised the Vikings with a quick drive down the field and scored on a 29-yard pass from Jacob Davis to Glenn Marshall to put OCS up, 19-14, at the half.

OCS then went on a tear and scored 21 points in the second half while shutting down Vidalia’s offense and taking the win over the Vikings.

Mark Laird intercepted Vidalia quarterback Caleb Vines twice, while Marshall also intercepted Vines once.

“We have got to find some head-hunters,” Faircloth said. “You can’t play defense without head hunters.”

Kevin Johnson led the Vikings in the rushing department with 21 runs for 114 yards, while Kennedy led the Eagles with 11 runs for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Jacob Davis had a strong passing effort for OCS going 10-for-19 with 167 yards and two touchdowns while Vines went 6-for-13 with 78 yard, two touchdowns, and three interceptions for the Vikings.

Marshall led all receivers with five catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns.

Vidalia will continue it’s annual rivalry with Ferriday next Friday, while OCS will take on Lake Providence at home.
