Rivera verdict ongoing

NATCHEZ — Just over one month ago Mark Trevisiol had his day in court — and he’s still waiting on a verdict.
In August Trevisiol, and his attorneys, were in Adams County Chancery Court making their case against John Rivera.
Trevisiol is suing Rivera for money, approximately $200,000, he testified he gave Rivera as start up funding for a fuel development plant in Port Gibson.
While the case wrapped up in less than two full days, when there will be a resolution in the matter is unclear.
Rick Bass, Trevisiol’s attorney, said he has yet to turn over his findings, facts and conclusions of law to the judge deciding the matter.
“We expect to have that to the court by the first part of next week,” Bass said.
Bass said he would have provided his post-trial submissions sooner but he was unable to secure copies of official court transcripts until Friday.
Bass said the transcripts were delayed because of the hurricane, which closed the courts for several days.
When the trial ended, The Natchez Democrat published that Judge George Ward could have a decision within 30 days, however Bass said that is not correct.
“None of us expected a decision from the judge in 30 days,” he said.
Bass said the 30-day deadline was given as an unofficial timeframe to have post-trial findings submitted.
After Bass files his findings Rivera’s attorney will then submit their findings.
Claude Pintard, Rivera’s attorney, could not be reached for comment.
Once both sides have made their submissions the judge is the ultimate authority on when the ruling will be made, Bass said.
“I cannot predict when the court would rule,” he said.
Judge Ward could not be reached for comment.
