VIDALIA — Extended early voting for the postponed Sept. 6 Republican primary will be allowed during early voting for the Oct. 4 election, which will begin Saturday.
Early voting will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and will continue Monday through next Saturday at the Concordia Parish Registrar of Voter’s office.
On the ballot for Oct. 4 are Seventh Judicial District Court Division A Judge and District Attorney.
The three candidates vying for district attorney are Brad Burget, of Vidalia, Andy Magoun, of Monterey, and Ronnie McMillin, of Vidalia.
The two candidates on the ballot for division A judge are incumbent Kathy Johnson and John Reeves.
Division B Judge Leo Boothe is running unopposed.
Also on the Oct. 4 ballot are the races for public service commissioner, a judicial seat in the third circuit court of appeals and local district justices of the peace and constable.
The Sept. 6 election was postponed because of statewide disruptions following Hurricane Gustav, Concordia Parish Registrar of Voters Golda Ensminger said.
That election was the primary for Louisiana’s Fifth Congressional District. Incumbent Rodney Alexander will be challenged by fellow Republican Andrew Clack.
The primary will decide the congressional race because there are no Democratic, independent or otherwise-affiliated candidates.
Those who voted early before the election was postponed will not have to vote again, and will not be allowed to cast a second ballot in the Sept. 6 election even if they do vote early for the Oct. 4 ballot, Ensminger said.
Voting in person requires a generally recognized picture ID such as a driver’s license or a Louisiana Special ID.
