NATCHEZ – Services for Nelson Dyson Sr., 90, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Glenburney Nursing Care Facility, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Daughters of Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. D.W. Howard officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Eastern Star and Masonic rites from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Dyson was born Sept. 4, 1918, in Adams County, the son of Catherine Barnes and Joseph Dyson. He was a lifelong member of Daughters of Zion Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, Catherine Chatman and Robert Dyson; and one son-in-law, Gregory Gibson.
Survivors include his wife, Sophronia Gooden Dyson; two sons, Nelson Dyson Jr. and wife, Alice, both of Natchez, and Joseph Dyson of Chicago; three daughters, Phyliss Harris and Karen Gibson, both of Missouri City, Texas, and Dorothy Barnes and husband, Bobby, both of Chicago; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
