ROXIE — Services for Albert Buckles Jr., 85, of Roxie, who died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at his residence, will be at noon Monday at Roxie First Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow at Roxie Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Mr. Buckles was born May 30, 1923, in Franklin County, the son of Albert Buckles Sr. and Letha Brown.
He was a carpenter and was retired from the Navy serving in World War II. He was a member and deacon of Roxie First Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge #517.
Mr. Buckles was preceded in death by one brother, E.B. Buckles and three sisters, Marie Hunt, Olive Mae Griffin and Bertha McKewen.
Survivors include four daughters, Essie and Chris Singleton, both of Roxie, Mary and Anthony Ray Proby, both of Natchez, Beverly McCoy of Roxie and Dorothy and Carl Harris, both of Biloxi; one brother, Joe and Vera Buckles, both of Diamondhead; three sisters, Mamie Hammond of Gulfport, Mattie Buckles of Gary, Ind. and Maggie Wilson of Roxie; one daughter-in-law, Rose Buckles of Roxie; god son, Danzel Allen of Roxie; step sister and brother, Jerimiah and Catherine Taylor, both of Roxie; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
