WOODVILLE — WCCA returned to school Monday, Sept. 8 after a very long Labor Day and Hurricane Gustav break.
Many of the students were still without electricity, but were glad to be able to resume class.
On Sept. 11, WCCA students participated in a memorial chapel service. This service was led by Taylor Vines, Samantha Pace, Samantha Bickham, Craig Lyons and a special choral group.
The student body was reminded of the sacrifices made on that fateful day and of the forgiveness and healing that should take place.
Jackie Ashley’s second- grade class decorated the elementary hall with colorful picture of sea creatures.
Hannah Ferguson wrote “Seebee and I love to play. She is my best friend. We are both 7-years-old, have the same birthday and like the color pink.”
With Hurricane Gustav fresh on Margo Ferguson’s first-grade students’ minds, they drew pictures and wrote a story about their experiences.
Michael Haney wrote about what happened at his house during the hurricane.
“The hurricane blew a tree down on my house. Some guys pushed the tree off with a car.”
Rachel Muncy wrote about her experience during the hurricane.
“The hurricane spilt a tree in half. We all slept in one room. A telephone pole was leaning on our house. We put mattresses against the windows,” she wrote.
Cynthia Calvert, high school English teacher, is helping the students prepare local color writings for the Woodville Deer and Wildlife Festival. WCCA students’ writings include interests such as hunting, fishing, cooking and mud riding.
WCCA started its fall fundraiser on Sept. 15 at the Patron meeting. This fundraiser will end Sept. 30. Students and parents will be selling Great American Opportunities Chocolates and trash bags. This fund raiser helps buy items for students. Last year new desks, chairs and computers were purchased.
The 1988 State Football Championship reunion has been rescheduled to Oct. 3, 2008. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
Rams quarterback George Davis recenlty had surgery after his season ending knee injury.
On Sept. 10, the Lady Rams softball team beat Franklin Academy at home.
This was senior night. WCCA recognized three senior softball girls Hannah Ashley, Crystal Jackson and Heather Stutzman.
The softball team has qualified for the state tournament in Jackson. Check with the school office for locations and times of the state tournament games.
