NATCHEZ — The Musical Arts League of Natchez will open its 2008-2009 season at 7 p.m. on Monday at Dave Troutman’s home located at 1115 Main St., in Natchez.

This summer, the group’s founder, Doris Burt, died, but the group will continue in her honor.

She began the League in 1971. For 37 years the Musical Arts League has promoted music at the student, amateur and professional levels. The league is dedicating the season to the memory of Burt who untiringly organized, prompted and taught a myriad of students. Her legacy still lives in many players who play and work in the area and around the world.

Anyone who loves listening to music, or plays music is invited to the meetings, and to join the League (minimal dues are requested.) This year the group hopes former students of Burt will dust off their pianos or other instruments and play for the group.

The Musical Arts League of Natchez are interested in the unusual as well. They have had whistlers, bagpipes, wind quintets, string quartets, vocalists and other performers.
