CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A celebration of life for Lillian DeBray Foster Moritz, who died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, in Charlotte, N.C., will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery.
Mrs. Moritz was born July 17, 1913, in Natchez, the daughter of Charles Howard Foster and Mary Louise Griffin Foster. She died with her daughter by her side.
Lillian was a true ambassador of the lovely Mississippi town of antebellum homes in which she lived most of her life. A devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church, in Natchez, Lillian belonged to the St. Cecilia’s Group. She was a member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club, First Families of Mississippi and the Natchez Cemetery Board. Upon retiring from the Natchez public school system, Lillian enjoyed spending time with her many friends, participating in church life and sharing her wisdom and treasure with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Bernard Eugene Moritz; and two sisters, Margaret Foster Haile and Elizabeth Foster Abington.
Survivors include one daughter Mary Louise Moritz Knox and husband, Edwin Bolls Knox Jr., both of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Valerie Knox Jones of Orlando, Fla., Elise Knox Elliott and Edwin Bolls Knox III, both of Charlotte; six great-grandchildren; one niece, Mary Elizabeth Haile Noble; one nephew, William Kennedy Abington; one great-niece, Delphine Noble Baucom; and two great-nephews, Charles Thomas Haile and John Mumford Haile, all held a special place in her heart.
Giving great comfort in her last days was the Jubilate, a prayer of joy: “O go your way into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. Be thankful unto Him and speak good of His name. For the Lord is gracious, His mercy is everlasting and His truth endureth from generation to generation.”
