Lorman — Jimmy Smith has been named the interim registrar at Alcorn State University.

Alice Gill recently retired from the position.

Smith has worked at ASU since 1984, when he was initially hired as a research technician for the USDA.

For the past 15 years, he has served as the assistant registrar at ASU.

He is a retired member of the Mississippi Army National Guard where he served for 21 years.

He received his bachelor of science degree in 1982 from Alcorn. He received a master of science in secondary education in 1994.
