NATCHEZ — Gwendolyn Watson found her car being riddled with more bullets than she could count while driving down Dumas Drive, Aug. 17.
Three men opened fire on her and 15-year-old grandson before driving away, she said.
“The bullets sounded like something you would be fired on with if you were in a war,” Watson said. “If you see my car, you’ll see I’m lucky that I didn’t receive a bullet.”
Since the shooting, she has been afraid to go out at night, but she now has some relief.
Police arrested Justin McGuire, 19, 601 Old Washington Road, Apt. 5E, on charges of aggravated assault, extreme indifference to human life, in relation to the drive-by shooting. Police also arrested Chris Jones, 28, 601 Old Washington Road, Apt. 17, Charles Jones, 35, 601 Old Washington Road, Apt. 16B, and charged them in the shooting.
“I feel much better,” she said. “I do feel some relief, but there are still a whole lot more (of these people). My life was very much at stake.”
Police reports said the three men had an altercation with someone before the shooting. Watson believes the altercation involved her grandson and they shot at her out of mistaken identity.
“I think they thought it wasn’t me. I think they though it was my grandson,” she said.
