NATCHEZ – Services for John S. Logan Jr., 89, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Logan was born Sept. 13, 1919, in Fayette, the son of John S. Logan Sr. and Annie Laurie Shields Logan. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and served 30 years as an Internal Revenue Service Agent in Natchez. In World War II, he served as Captain in the 8th Air Force and was selected as a squadron bombardier for the 447th Bomb Group. He flew 25 missions over Germany as lead bombardier and received a number of medals for his outstanding service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one son, Julius Stephen Logan.
Survivors include his wife, Norma King Logan; one daughter, Trudy May Torrey and husband, Allen, both of Fayette; three sons, John W. Logan and wife, Betty, and Leonard James Logan, all of Prentiss, and Clifford W. Logan and wife, Linda, both of Augusta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clifford W. Logan Jr., Austin T. Logan, Jack Logan, John C. Logan, Kevin Dykes and Kenny Volante.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Fyke, Katherine and office personnel, Dr. Leslie England, Dr. Vikram Dulam, Dr. Randy Tillman, Robert Green and Donnie Verucchi.
