NATCHEZ – Services for J. Logan Sewell, 87, of Vidalia, who died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 1 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Zabron A. Davis III officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Sewell was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Boyce, La., the son of James “Jack” Asbury Sewell and Inez Casson Wells Sewell. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry. He also served on Trinity Episcopal Day School Board of Directors.
Mr. Sewell served on the Kissatchie Delta Development Board and the Concordia Parish School Board. He was an avid collector of guns, Bowie knives and Indian Artifacts. He was a member of the American Society of Arms Collectors and the Antique Bowie Knife Association. He also served on the Natchez Historical Preservation Committee.
Mr. Sewell was an avid outdoorsman as he loved to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Sewell Jr.; one sister, Janice Sewell; and one daughter, Linda Robb.
Survivors include his wife, Renza Dale Sewell; one son, Joseph Logan Sewell Jr. and wife, Cathy, both of Jefferson County; one daughter, Jane Petty and husband, Glen, both of Lake Concordia, La.; three grandchildren, Logan Nichols Sewell, James Robb and wife, Destiney, and Lessley Petty; three great-grandchildren, Mila Robb, Shanon Robb and Bailey Warden; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Pat Biglane, Pat Galloway, Chuck Gilbert, Johnny Dale, Richard Campbell and Mark Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Percy Rountree, Mike Worley, Connell Miller Jr., Dr. Ancel Tipton, Bill Rush Mosby Jr., Hyram Copeland, Bob Berryman, Anton Reel, Jack Royse, Cappy Stahlman and Jerry Sims.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Day School, 1 Mallan G. Morgan Drive, Natchez, MS 39120 or Trinity Episcopal Church, 305 S. Commerce St., Natchez, MS 39120.
