Alcorn falls to Alabama A&M in SWAC East contest

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Kevin Atkins threw for 204 yards and a touchdowns to help Alabama A&M beat Alcorn State 20-13 on Saturday night.
The Braves (2-6, 1-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took a 7-3 lead in the second quarter when Edward Johnson caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Tim Buckley.
Buckley finished with 236 yards passing and two interceptions.
Johnson Edwards had five catches for 101 yards.
But the Bulldogs (3-5, 2-1) regained the lead for good in the second quarter after Atkins threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Harris, who had eight catches for 94 yards.
Alabama A&M later pushed its lead to 20-7 in the third on Nate Baxter’s 23-yard touchdown catch from Darian Payne.
Anthony Green ran for 58 yards on 15 carries for the Bulldogs, while Ulysses Banks added 45 yards on the ground.
The Braves attempted a comback in the fourth quarter, scoring twice to get within seven points.
Taylor Richardson recorded both touchdowns.
The first was a 42-yard run with just under 11 minutes to go in the game.
The second was a 35-yard carry into the end zone with 4:19 left to play.
Buckley had 13 carries for 26 yards.
