NATCHEZ – Services for Katie R. Smith, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at her residence, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Alexander officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Williams and Williams Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith was formerly employed with Natchez-Adams School District and retired after 40 years of service as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Marblestone Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School superintendent, church secretary and a member of the missionary society.
Mrs. Smith served as the musician at Smithland Baptist Church of which she was retired. She was also a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and was a member of Heroins of Jericho.
Survivors include one daughter, Takita Smith and husband, Jeffery, both of Natchez; one son, Charles Smith and wife, Marie, both of Natchez; two brothers, Robert Carter of Natchez and Edward Carter and wife, Willeena, both of Los Angeles; three grandchildren, Kyron Smith, Jamarii White and Gregory Moffett; eight children she reared, Robert Carter Jr. and wife, Sarah, James Carter and wife, Mary, Deloris Wilkerson and Marvell Carter, all of Natchez, Mary Terry and husband, James, both of Los Angeles, Ann Bomar of Detroit and Thelma Fells and husband, Jimmy, both of Hattiesburg; a number of adopted grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
